Pinyon Ranch Woodworx is committed to green building. We feel that it is our responsibility to do what we can to support green building. We support this goal through the materials that we use for building as well as the energy that we use in our shop.
There are two main factors that influence the materials that we use to manufacture our products. First are the processed materials that we use in our products. We only use plywood and solid wood for the majority of our products. The only time we use particle board (which contains harmful formaldehyde) is if this is the only material available for the wood species selected by the customer. The second and most important aspect are the finishing products. We use a waterborne stain and lacquer system for finishing. This is a water based product instead of a solvent based product, therefore we have no out-gassing of harmful solvents in our finishes. Both the finish that we use and the pre-finished maple plywood for the cabinet box parts are LEED compliant (Green Building Code).
Although we do not supply 100% of our energy needs with solar PV panels, we have about a 2.0KW array. This energy feeds into a battery bank and then to an inverter to convert DC power to AC power. It is a grid tied system, so the energy that we produce and do not use, returns to the utility grid. We feel that this is a very important step in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. We all need to do our part for a healthy environment! |
